Some stories send shivers down your spine when you read them. This is one of those stories. According to the Nigerian Tribune, a young man has accused his Uncle of drugging and raping him.

This is how it was reported by the Nigerian Tribune:

IT is a sad story, a frightening betrayal of family trust. To many, it’s something that defies logic, because no one has ever seen a male dog, despite its high libido, doing such a thing with another male dog. For the fact a man was involved in it, and in a highly cosmopolitan city like Kaduna where all kinds of women abound who could have served that purpose for a fee, or even for free depending on how persuasive one could be, many are now disturbed. The thinking in many quarters is that, perhaps, the people of the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah are gradually reincarnating in the crocodile city.

For Hajiya Fati, it’s a sad tale to tell, but considering the degree of betrayal, she was prepared to go to any length to seek justice for her son who was allegedly sedated, sodomised and blackmailed by a businessman who hitherto was highly respected and revered by neighbours in the elitist Malali area of Kaduna metropolis.
Amid sobs, she prayed that such a thing would never happen again to any family, and hoped against hope that the dirty act would not be revealed to her ailing husband, the father of her son, Kabiru, who is now coping with the sad and painful experience he suffered in the hands of a close and trusted family friend – a man who had once played with him on his laps as a baby, but who would one day turn into a sex predator, forcefully gaining entry into his anal region after drugging him with a hot tea.

Narrating his ordeal, Kabiru, who appears to be in his early 30s, said he was invited by Alhaji Habu to his Malali house and was offered food to eat. After the meal, he vomited because he was not feeling well. According to him, his host offered him tea, which he drank and immediately, he fell asleep in the house, with no one around.

According to him, the tea, which he suspected was drugged, threw him into a state of illusion, but he felt it when Alhaji Habu allegedly penetrated him.

“He was already inside me and I tried to free myself, but my body was weak because of the tea. I gained a little strength and tried to push him aside, but he said he would give me whatever I wanted if I could cooperate. I saw a knife and rushed for it but he held my hand and slapped me, forcing me down. When I was able to grab the knife again, he held my hand, and in the struggle, I was wounded. I fought with the knife to free myself, screaming for help. It was late at night and when I was able to push the door and escaped, I screamed and some people came to help me. The police came from Malali Police Station and took us to the Garkuwa Hospital,” he recounted.
Kabiru said he had never involved in such abnormal sexual act, and expressed sadness that a person he called ‘uncle’ could do such a thing to him.

Hajiya Fati insisted there was no homosexual relationship between her son and one Alhaji Habu; but she maintained the suspect had been well known to the family since when Kabiru was a baby, and even married the sister of a close friend of hers.

“I was home sleeping, and around 2:00 a.m., the police came knocking. They said my son, Kabiru, had a fight with someone and that they were both in a hospital badly wounded. We rushed to the Garkuwa Hospital, and on sighting me, Kabiru said ‘Mama, look at what Alhaji Habu did to me’. I was terrified and dumbfounded because my son was in bad state, and something like water was dripping from his backside.

“Immediately, Alhaji Habu, who was bandaged due to knife cuts on his body, also said ‘Hajiya, look at what Kabiru did to me.’ He said my son came to his house to use his guinea brocade (kaftan) for a wedding ceremony and decided to pass the night. He said that in the night, he felt somebody stabbing him with a knife, and was even calling Kabiru to come to his aid, not knowing that it was Kabiru that was stabbing him.

“I asked him why he didn’t call me to inform me that Kabiru would be passing the night in his house. I said that even if Kabiru stayed late in his house, he should have asked him to leave, since in such (an elitist) area, one could not get a taxi or commercial motorcyclists at late hours. But he said it was my son who came to his house, ate the food he had cooked and vomited, drank tea afterward and decided to sleep in the house, not knowing that he came to rob him.”

She said she could not tell Kabiru’s father the sad story because he is old and very ill; expressing the fear that such a story might worsen his already bad situation.
“All I want is justice to take its course. My son cannot be blackmailed. He (Alhaji Habu) has betrayed trust and I can never forget this sad incident. The religion of Islam is against this kind of thing; the heaven and the earth shake anytime this sin is committed. It is a very bad thing. I must fight for my fundamental human rights,” she said.
It was gathered that Habu’s wife has since deserted the family home, having suspected that her husband was involved in an inappropriate relationship.

At the hospital where Alhaji Habu was receiving treatment, he told reporters that Kabiru was in his house to rob him and succeeded in wounding him with a knife. The reporters were, however, prevented from having a detailed interview with the suspect, based on ‘orders from above’.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state police command, DSP Aminu Lawan, said he was aware of the incident but that investigations were still going on to unravel what actually took place during the encounter.

Nigeria’s rising star in the United Kingdom, Yewande Akinola, who recently won the Young Woman Engineer of the Year award from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London, United Kingdom, consequently placing her among best under 30 female engineers in the UK, will be the new IET’s young woman engineer ambassador for 2013.

Akinola is a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree holder in Engineering Design and Appropriate Technology from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom and a Masters degree holder in Innovation and Design from Cranfield University, also in UK. She works with ARUP, a global firm of consulting engineers with its headquarters in the UK.

Reacting to the award which also fetched her cash prize of £2,500, Akinola said: “Winning this has encouraged me to work even harder to put all the effort I can into spreading the message about how successful women in engineering are and can be.

“I’m hoping this will help me tell an effective story that will inspire young girls to consider a career in engineering and will demonstrate the diverse and fantastic opportunities this industry has to offer.”

Justifying Akionla’s choice as the winner of the award, the awarding institution, IET, described her in its publication as “a woman who loves the challenge of taking engineering ideas from concept through to manufacture, she has been recognised for her commitment to sustainability and innovation, especially around water supply technology.”

Akinola had originally planned to train as an architect, but her mother thought she would really excel if she entered the engineering world.
“My mum thought that as an engineer I would have a lot more opportunity to express my desire to create inspiring spaces for people to live and work in, so I gave it some thought.

“When I started to really think about it, I thought yes, I’m interested in water engineering, I’m interested in transport, energy, and having spent time growing up in developing country energy was a big problem. I thought that instead of designing just comfortable houses, I could design roads and energy systems that would complement the whole idea of comfortable living. That was it for me: I then applied to Warwick.

“The beauty of engineering is that its basic principles span across many different areas and aspects: communications, structures etc. That variety has helped me stay interested.

“I would like to call this social engineering. It was an amazing opportunity to work onsite and communicate my design ideas to the people there.

Being able to express engineering concepts and ideas to the people on site is an important part of an engineer’s work,” Akinola said.

Besides, as an engineer, she is also interested in water and sanitation for underdeveloped and developing countries, and this has made her travel to Ghana to look into developing mechanised systems, while she recently went over to Mozambique to work with Water Aid.

“That was really good because engineering is about being able to find the right solutions with the right resources. The problem there in Mozambique was with sanitation. These guys use pit latrines and when full they fill them up and dig new ones. Slowly but surely they’re surrounded by them.

“I came to work with the people there to understand how this problem could be solved. The project was about supporting the sanitation association to go into all these homes and empty the latrines. There is something called a Vacutug that can be used, and these are then emptied at a local waste water treatment centre,” Akinola said, while sharing her experiences during her trips.

Toyota said it feels that its brands are outperforming the global market.

“According to the report, although automotive sales improved in some regions, they remained below pre-recession levels in others, adversely impacting overall brand values.

“In contrast, global sales for Toyota in 2012 increased by 22.6 per cent, to 9.75 million units, which positively contributed towards the company’s brand valuation in this year’s report, Toyota said in a press release.

The automaker also affirmed that “the BrandZ report also hints at growing ‘customer affinity’ with hybrid technology.

Toyota said its customers can choose from the widest range of hybrid vehicles of any manufacturer, including: Yaris Hybrid, Auris Hybrid, Auris Hybrid Touring Sports, Prius, etc

The rich tend to keep everything simple- even their dressing. Nigeria’s billionaires are no exception. When it comes to style, they stick to the basics and adhere to simple fashion rules – simplicity and elegance. This gives them a classy look. Whether they wear the traditional attire or they opt for suit and tie, if you do not know them, you can never tell their worth through their dressing. If you try to estimate or assess their wealth through their style, you’ll be disappointed as their dress sense is as reserved as their looks.

President Goodluck Jonathan has blamed Nigerians for crimes in the country, saying the society has failed.
Jonathan stated this, yesterday, during the official opening of the National Christian campaign on social transformation, titled: ‘Be the change you want to see’.

The president said the society needed both moral and spiritual transformation, stating : “The whole society has failed, that is one reason we have incidents of cultism, armed robbery, murder, ritual killings, drugs, sales of babies, kidnapping, sexual immorality, and other vices.”

The President blamed this moral decadence on parents, who did not teach their children the right things to do, the church, where Bible teachings have been turned upside down, and also on schools, where most teachers, rather than teach their students, turned themselves to traders of all sorts.

“Indeed we have lost our moral values and principles. So much has gone wrong in our family life, schools, churches and society in general. We have lost the values of hard-work, respect for elders, truthfulness, contentment, for Godliness with contentment is great gain, humility, patience, compassion, fairness, love, justice, obedience, and all other vices, are all lost. Our priorities are misplaced.

“It would appear we have the society we deserve. We, therefore, need both moral and spiritual transformation. We need to return to God. Study and obey the word of God, which is able to cleanse us,” he said.

The president, who was represented by the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Amma Pepple, insisted that there was a great responsibility placed on the church to lead this return to values and morals and to bring about the much needed transformation in the society, so that the people can try to be like Jesus, who he described as “meek, never spoke angry word, frequently in prayers and always doing good.”

In his remarks, Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, while thanking the organisers of the campaign, said it corroborated Mr. President’s Transformation Agenda in the Christian way.

Maku noted that change could only come right from the heart and that such change would take the country to the next level.

President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor said change could only take place when an individual decided to change for the better rather than expecting it from other people.

He said: “For this country to change for the better, I must change. I should not expect the change to come from others first. It must begin with me. That is why all the three books on social transformation given out today must be studied very well by all, in order to effect the change we desire in our country.”

The organiser of national Christian campaign on social transformation, Reverend Williams Okoye said if Christians lived exemplary lives, they would be able to influence others, thereby making the country the best in the world.

Okoye, who said the three books on social transformation are being distributed freely to all Nigerians, called for more collaboration from all stakeholders to ensure positive change in Nigeria

A New York City livery cab driver has been savagely killed after a passenger stabbed him through the eye with an umbrella, piercing his brain, during a dispute.

Police say the mortally wounded man, identified as 54-year-old Orji-Ama Uro, of Rosedale, Queens, continued driving for about a block before crashing into two parked cars in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn Thursday.

Uro was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to the victim’s family, Uro was a father of five who emigrated to the U.S. from Nigeria 10 years ago in pursuit of the American dream, which for him was opening his own shore store.

Chinedoum Agwu, Uro’s sister-in-law, told that the 54-year-old cab driver leaves behind two sons and three daughters between the ages of 16 and 23.

She described her slain brother-in-law as a very hardworking and responsible man who regularly attended services at a Jehovah’s Witness church.

Agwu, who was supposed to host a Father’s Day dinner for Uro and other relatives this Sunday, now has nothing left to do but weep for her brother-in-law and wonder why would anyone hurt him.

‘What would they get from a cab driver? If he had money, he wouldn’t drive a cab,’ she said.

The man was driving a 2000 gold Mercury Grand Marquis with New Jersey license plates that was registered to Freedom Car Service, according to investigators.

Surveillance video from a nearby store captured a man and woman in their mid-20s calmly emerging from the cab and walking away as the vehicle rolled down the street.

Police are currently searching for the suspects, who remain at large. The livery cab had no partition or camera inside.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the suspects’ arrest. The group 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care is offering another $2,000.

The gruesome incident took place at around 5.30pm Thursday near the intersection of Lott Avenue and Thomas S. Boyland Street in Brooklyn.

Police officers who responded to a report of a car crash were stunned to discover a man slumped on his side in the driver’s seat gushing blood from a stab wound in his eye.

No weapon has been recovered from the scene, but investigators believe the perpetrator stabbed Uro with the metal tip of an umbrella.

Following the brutal attack, witnesses say the wounded motorist attempted to drive away, but ended up crashing his cab into two parked cars before coming to rest in a private driveway across the street from a schoolyard.

‘I was cooking in kitchen and I heard a loud bang, so I ran to my window. I saw the cab driver bleeding like crazy. His face was full of blood,’ neighbor Lena Taylor told the New York Post. ‘I called 911 and they arrived fast and cut him out of the car. He already looked dead.’

Jose Perez, who works in a bodega across the street, told the New York Times that he heard the sound of an engine, followed by a crash. He approached the cab, peered inside and saw the driver leaning over the wheel.

‘I saw a guy with a lot of blood on his face,’ he recalled. ‘He was coughing up blood.’

Police say it appears that the drivers got into a dispute with his passengers, a man and a woman, who were later seen walking away from the scene.

Uro’s wallet and cash were still on him when he was discovered bleeding to death inside the car, suggesting to police that the motive of the attack was not a robbery, reported.

New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers President Fernando Mateo told NY1 that the victim’s driver identification card was missing.

‘It was a terrible way for a man to die,’ he told the paper.

A Maiduguri based businessman (name is not disclosed for security reasons) on Thursday turned in his biological son, a member of Boko Haram, to the Joint Task Force, JTF, with an order that he should be shot dead, witnesses said.

The son was eventually killed.

The son, according to close family sources, had once threatened to kill his father before he fled home and returned only recently; as security operatives continue to clamp down on the sect me. He was said to have returned as a prodigal son, seeking asylum in his father’s compound.

“After confessing all his crimes including how he participated in the killing of people and looting of banks to his father, the old man said he has no such conscience to keep a killer son in his home,” said the family member under anonymity.

The 60-year old Kanuri man who lives in Babban-Line Commercial Area, Maiduguri, simply approached the Sector Office of the JTF and told them about his son.

Witnesses quoted him as saying, “This boy is my son; he is a confirmed member of Boko Haram and has killed many people, he too should be killed too.”

In a dramatic twist, as the young man attempted to flee from the soldiers to whom his father handed him over, he was shot at and struck down by a bullet. He later died. His father, who was yet to completely leave the scene simply turned around, looked at the writhing body of his son on the ground and said, “Masha Allah” meaning, “To God be the glory.”

Before he was handed over to the soldiers, the young man was said to have revealed to his father and family members that he possessed two cars and had millions of naira buried somewhere near his family home. But the father said he had no interest in the ill-gotten assets and has no intentions of inheriting them according to Islamic laws as they are ‘haram’.

Lionel Messi, the Barcelona star footballer and his father are accused of scamming $5.3 million in taxes from Spanish authorities. Along with his father, Jorge Horacio Messi, the high income player is accused of fraudulent tax returns for 2007, 2008 and 2009.

It’s clear this won’t be a simple case. A judge must accept the prosecutor’s lawsuit before any charges could be brought.

This is bad press for the World Star player but centers on companies and endorsement deals. Tax advisers can be expected to contend that this is no more than tax planning, not unlike aggressive football play.

According to Forbes, Messi earns $41.3 million per year, making him the 10th highest-paid athlete in the world. But not all of it is for actual play.

He is said to collect $21 million from endorsement deals, including Adidas. He makes about $20 million from Barcelona. Only David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo had higher earnings from soccer. In a statement released via his Facebook page, Messi said:

“We have just known through the media about the claim filed by the Spanish tax authorities. We are surprised about the news, because we have never committed any infringement. We have always fulfilled all our tax obligations, following the advice of our tax consultants who will take care of clarifying this situation.”

Messi’s contract is understood to pay €11 million (£8.5 million) a year net. But the issue is beyond salary. Barcelona’s El Periodico newspaper says it involves commercial revenues from the Spanish authorities from 2006 through 2009 by directing the income to companies in tax havens. Much remains unclear, but if the reports are to be believed, the image and license deals are assigned to companies domiciled in tax havens.
