Damini Ogulu ( Born July 2, 1991) Popularly known as Burna Boy, is Nigerian dance- hall , afrobeat and hiphop artisite. in an interview with Ndani he called his music , Afro Fusion. Burna Boy is known for his smooth Patois-influenced Dance-hall crooning, and most especially for his hit singles“Run my Race”. Songs Like ”Abeg Abeg Abeg”, “Party Wit Me”, “Firewood”, “Touch Your Toes” and “Like To Party” brought him to Limelight.
Burna Boy was born in Port Harcourt where he received his Montessori and primary school education before moving to Lagos. He traveled to the UK for his university education where he found his talent for music. Timaya, Duncan Mighty and Burna Boy are some of the famous artiste to come our of the Garden City of Port Harcourt.
Burna Boy started out in Hip Hop; when he moved to the UK he greatly influenced by the Jamaican population in Brixton. It was there he picked up his ‘ragga’ vibes. The ice on the cake came when his Grandfather Benson Idons – one time manager of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti took him to see Fela’s African Shrine. That was when he decided to add afrobeat to his musical style. So it therefore not suprising that Burna Boy’s music style is uniquely different . He is a splendid vocalist and he oozes versatility as his unique sound blends Dance-hall, Afrobeat, R&B and Hip-Hop into one tightly knit package. Burna Boy have also named Tuface Idibia as one of his influences.
Burna Boy officially broke into the music industry in December 2010 when he moved back to Nigeria from London, and has since been bringing in the hits bumping speakers all over Port Harcourt. But, It wasn’t until June, 2012, when he made a cross-over to the Lagos music scene with his mid-tempo Summer Jam, “Like To Party” that the budding star got the media sphere in a serious buzz. His Debut album , titled L.I.F.E stands for “leaving an impact for eternity”. It was released in August 2013 and He held an Album release party.
