Nigerian Musician Evi-Edna Ogholi, was known as the “Queen of Nigerian Reggae,”.
Daughter of Reverend R. O. Ogholi, Evi was born July 6, 1965 in Isoko, Bendel State(now Edo state). Immediately after her secondary school education in 1985, she fled to Lagos armed with a demo tape in search of a musical break. Luckily she met Emma Oghosi, a divorcee pop musician who later became her producer, manager and later husband. Evi released her debut album titled “My kind of Music” in 1987 thus becoming Nigeria’s first female hardcore reggae artiste. She has released three other albums, on the Move, Happy Birthday and Step by Step.
Evi’s first three albums all went platinum and are still popular in West African Sub-region which she toured in 1989. She established herself all over West Africa and received sponsorship from Pepsi for a Nigerian national tour.
Edna has many hits. some of which include: ”Happy Birthday, Jelousy, There is no Place like home, Message to the Youth.”.
