Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (born July 16, 1989) better known as WizkidStar Boy, and the Pop Prince of Africa, is a Nigerian recording artist, songwriter, and performer. Wizkid rose to prominence with his hit song, Don’t Dull. Banky Wdiscovered Wizkid and signed him to his record label, “Empire Mates Entertainment”. Wizkid’s most notable songs are: Don’t Dull, Love My Baby, Azonto, Pakurumo, Tease Me, and Dance For Me.

Wizkid has worked with Bracket, Lynxxx, Iyanya, Wande Coal, Ice Prince, R2Bees, Wale, Young Jeezy, Akon, Femi Kuti, and many more. Wizkid’s debut album, Superstar was released in 2011.. He is currently working on a new album, scheduled to be released later in 2013.

Life and career

Wizkid was born on July 16, 1989 in Lagos, Nigeria. He comes from a large family and is the last of six children. In an interview with Tim Westwood, Wizkid stated that his father has three wives. Wizkid started singing at age 11; he sang in his church’s choir and released a 7 track album entitled “Lil Prinz”. Wizkid’s first song featured one of Nigeria’s celebrated musical icon, OJB Jezreel. Moreover, in 2006, Wizkid collaborated with Naeto C and Ikechukwu prior to rising to stardom. In 2009, Wizkid became a household name within Nigeria’s musical landscape; he was featured on M.I’s “Fast Money, Fast Cars”, and Kel’s “Turn by Turn”. Wizkid was featured on Banky W’s album, The W Experience, after getting signed to Empire Mates Entertainment. Wizkid is arguably the best young musician on the African continent.

To complement the release of their album, Wizkid and his label mates, Banky W, and Skales, announced their 2011 Empire World Tour. The tour began on June 24 at the Lincoln Theater in Washington DC, followed by Variety Playhouse Theater inAlanta, Georgia on July 2, Auditorium at Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago, Illinois on July 9, AYVA Center in Houston, Texas on July 15, Grand Ballroom in New York on July 16, and California Theater in San Jose, California on July 23. The tour featured a live band, full stage productions, and onstage dancers. As an incentive, concert attendees who purchased advance tickets to the aforementioned tour received Wizkid’s Superstar as a token.. Wizkid toured london in 2012 and performed at the HMV Apollo on June 4, 2012 in London, England..[12] On November 12, 2012, Wizkid performed at the BBC 1xtra Live 02 Academy in Brixton alongside Trey Songz, Tulisa, Kendrick Lamar, and Angel. 

Personal life

Wizkid is currently dating Tania Omotayo Teller. The two made a public appearance at Banky W’s R&BW Album Launch which occurred on February 15, 2013 at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. Wizkid posted a photo of Ms. Teller on his instagram page with the caption “Wishing you all the luck in the world 2day babe…love!!!”.. In retrospect, Wizkid has allegedly been linked with Tonto Dikeh in the past. Both parties have debunked the rumors.

Awards and nominations

Wizkid has won numerous awards. He won the MOBO Awards for Best African Act in 2011. In 2012 he won the BET award for Best International Act Africa. In the same year he also won the Hip Hop World Awards (The Headies) for Artiste of the year and Hip Hop World Revelation Of The Year. In 2013 Wizkid won the African Artist of the Year in the Ghana Music Awards.
